They do these relatively small care packages to the Ukraine. The reason they have to rush through $250 million is that the government would collapse otherwise.
The Biden administration unveiled another $250 million aid package meant for Ukraine Tuesday as the eastern European nation’s counter-offensive against invading Russian forces grinds on.
Materiel set to be dispatched to the war-torn country include AIM-9M missiles for air defense, 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition, munitions for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), more than three million rounds of small arms ammunition, and ambulances, according to the State Department.
“Russia started this war and could end it at any time by withdrawing its forces from Ukraine and stopping its brutal attacks,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement.
“Until it does, the United States and our allies and partners will stand united with Ukraine, for as long as it takes.”
US aid to Ukraine generally comes from either existing stockpiles via presidential drawdown authority (PDA) or from contracting a defense company to manufacture it via the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI).
The $250 million package announced Tuesday will come from existing stockpiles, meaning it should arrive much quicker than the other method.
I can’t believe Blinken is still using that same slogan. They’re supposed to test these slogans regularly, through various focus-group type methods. I mean, obviously the White House doesn’t technically run focus groups, but they get these reports from think tanks and so on, you know – the Washington System. “As long as it takes” has been mocked so much, and framed as such a callous disregard for the lives of Ukrainians (and the concerns of the American people), that it is bizarre to hear it when the Spring Offensive is approaching its September phase.

We’re really getting these sorts of vibes:
Blinken has always been an awkward, dead-eyed moron who can only speak in slogans, however. You notice he’s rarely in public.
I remember being shocked when he went to that meeting with the Chinese in Alaska, and he was supposed to go in and dunk on them about all the genocides he was alleging they were committing, and instead he got blown out and was left stuttering: “I’m hearing America is back.”
He was with Wang Yi, who is the archetype of the brutal modern Chinese bureaucrat, and his translator surely had to explain to him that this was a marketing slogan.
There was constant clarifications between him and the translator, as what Blinken was saying was so weird and esoteric.
“What is the meaning of this? Where did America go to? From whence are they returning?”
“It’s a marketing slogan, sir.”
“Like in an advertisement?”
“Yes, sir. He’s been repeating this on the campaign route.”
